After Cees Nooteboom had already published a novel and a collection of poems, he started working for the weekly magazine in 1957 at the age of 23. Elsevier to write travel stories. Nooteboom thus discovered the genre with which he would achieve worldwide success.

Cees Nooteboom (1933) is a versatile writer of novels, essays, poems, and especially travel stories. In the Netherlands he received, among others, the Constantijn Huygens Prize (1992), the PC Hooft Prize (2004) and the Prize of Dutch Literature (2009).
