Nature and the environment in the Netherlands are doing quite well. Air and water pollution have decreased significantly. Dragonflies, gadwalls and spoonbills are doing very well and the water is so clean that even the Dalmatian pelican can live here again.
There is also good news globally. Poverty and hunger are decreasing, there are more humpback whales and mountain gorillas and child mortality is decreasing, even in bandit countries, writes Simon Rozendaal in his latest book How lucky we are to live here and now!
He explains that prosperity is not a threat, but a protection for nature, notes that most doomsayers from the past were wrong, qualifies global warming, calculates that nuclear energy is a thousand times more sustainable than sun and wind and finds 25 billion euros to prevent the growth of blackberries a bit much.
