Bicycle Edition 8-2024
This month we focus on 'breaking': breaking records, but also bones. Mark Cavendish took his 35th sprint victory in the Tour de France at the age of 39. An ultimate record! No one has won more Tour stages than this cycling hero. Speaking of heroes, for this issue we visited Jan Janssen for a wonderful article about the restoration of his old Lejeune bike.
Let's talk about Cav's sprint. Not far behind him, Mads Pedersen crashed. Axel Zingle bunnyhopped over him and rode on as if such a tumble was quite normal. Unfortunately, that is somewhat true: you either have fallen or you are going to fall, they say. And if you do fall, the chance of a broken collarbone is quite high - there is no bone that cyclists break as often as the clavicle, as doctors call it. How do you best recover from such a fracture? You can read all about it in Fiets 8.
