Easy to follow on mobile, tablet and computer

More than 305 trainees have preceded you

As a parent of a highly sensitive child, you face a challenge: how do I guide my son or daughter in a world full of stimuli? In our HSP Kids training we will help you find an answer to that question. You will learn everything about high sensitivity in children and get great tips on how to lovingly guide your (highly) sensitive child in a world full of stimuli.

Content of the lessons

1. What is high sensitivity?

In this lesson we will discuss the core of high sensitivity. What is it, what are the advantages and disadvantages of being highly sensitive, and how does it manifest itself in children of different ages? At the end of the lesson you will find a test: is your child highly sensitive?

2. Senses

Why does everything your child hear, see, feel or taste resonate so strongly? And how do you help your child deal with all those stimuli? You will discover that in this lesson. Plus: the beautiful sides of those intense experiences.

3. What a highly sensitive child needs

In the previous lesson you saw what high sensitivity per sense means for your child. You also briefly learned how to guide him through that intense hearing, smelling or tasting. In today's lesson we go a layer deeper. What are the most important pillars in raising a highly sensitive child?

4. Highly sensitive, strong-willed children

Most highly sensitive children are quiet, observant types who watch the situation as they please. But there is also a group of children who are sensitive and like excitement and challenge. Children with a lot of courage, a strong will and a feisty temperament. In this lesson you will discover how highly sensitive and... strong-willed go together. What are the needs of these children and how do you help them deal with tension?

5. High sensitivity and the family

How do you make a highly sensitive child feel safe in your family? What's the best way to take his sensitivity into account, while still leaving enough room for the needs of siblings? That's what this lesson is about. We also discuss major events such as a move, and how you can guide your sensitive child through this.

6. High sensitivity and the outside world

The world is full of surprises, lessons and discoveries. Full of new people to meet, places to explore and skills to master. As a parent, you want to protect your child from bumps and pitfalls, but also let him enjoy all the beauty that life has to offer as much as possible. How do you find the balance between encouraging and protecting? You will discover that in this lesson.

7. High sensitivity and friendships

Your child will probably do best in a close friendship, one-on-one. Then his great empathy and loyalty are fully expressed. How do you encourage your child to make friends, and how do you guide him in those friendships? That's what this lesson is about.

8. Highly sensitive parents

What does it mean to be the highly sensitive parent of a highly sensitive child? Does it make it easier for you to empathize with your child, and what impact does it have on your way of parenting? Discover it in this lesson, and also learn what it means for your parenting style not to be highly sensitive.

9. Tips and exercises

Various tips and exercises have been discussed in recent lessons. In this lesson we will list them all again. But first: some recommendations and exercises in the field of spirituality. And: which food has a calming effect on an easily overstimulated child?

10. Closing

Highly sensitive and strong-willed: what does that mean?

Most highly sensitive children are quiet, observant types who watch the situation as they please. But there is also a group of children who are sensitive and like excitement and challenge. Children with a lot of courage, a strong will and a feisty temperament. In the fourth lesson of this training you will discover how highly sensitive and... strong-willed go together. What are the needs of these children and how do you help them deal with tension? Expert Janneke van Olphen tells you all about it.

Research into high sensitivity

High sensitivity literally means that you are extra sensitive to stimuli. Sounds, smells, details and feelings penetrate your consciousness more than average and keep you occupied for longer. A nice feature, but not always easy. Fortunately, a lot of research has now been done into this. For example, it was the American Elaine Aron who was the first to use the term in 1997 Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) started using and made it her life's work to study this trait. She discovered it in fifteen to twenty percent of people. As much in adults as in children, boys as much as in girls.

High sensitivity is a gift

Elaine Aron and her many experts in this field believe it is very important not to dismiss high sensitivity as something negative. It is not a disease or disorder, but a personality trait. People, children with this trait are often observant, empathetic and creative. They see every detail and see further than other children. Aron: “The highly sensitive individual not only notices dangers or problems that others overlook, but also opportunities and solutions.” They also have a deep inner life: beauty and music can touch them enormously. For example, the effect of positive images on the mood is greater in highly sensitive people.
