When this issue went to press shortly after Milan-San Remo, it still looked so good: Wout van Aert was on course to peak in the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, the holy week of spring in which this Giro d'Italia Guide would appear. Since the Belgian all-rounder intended to make his debut in the Italian round after the classics, that was all the more reason to rope him in for a cover interview.

After his terrible fall in Dwars door Vlaanderen in the last week of March, his participation has become uncertain and a speedy recovery is the only logical priority. It will take a few more weeks before it can be determined what Van Aert's plans will be in May. But whether he will ultimately ride the Giro or not, the fascinating and amusing interview that Renaat Schotte had with WVA during the Tour of the Algarve last February is and remains more than worth reading.

This also applies to the continuation of the Giro guide with interviews with sprinters Jonathan Milan and Fabio Jakobsen, a portrait of favorite Tadej Pogačar, a report with Olav Kooij and Wilco Kelderman from Paris-Nice, plus a background story about the rise of the Swiss Tudor Pro Cycling of team owner Fabian Cancellara and Dutch sprinter Arvid de Kleijn. There is also a candid story with the Italian Sonny Colbrelli, who had to end his career two years ago after a cardiac arrest in the Tour of Catalonia and is now trying to find his feet in a new cycling life as a future sports director.

As usual, the guide is completed with overviews of all participating Giro teams and an extensive analysis of the route of the 107th edition of the Corsa Rosa with stage profiles, route maps and mountain profiles of all twenty-one stages. Everything is being done to be fully prepared and ready for the first big round of this season on May 4.
