Autumn weekend Vlieland

Vlieland is the smallest inhabited Wadden Island. Half of the island consists of a large sandbank (the Vliehors), the largest sandbank in Europe! The island is a true magnet for migratory birds. In the autumn, Vlieland is the first country that birds leaving from Scandinavia encounter. The birds therefore “fall” from the sky above the island and are often easy to approach. Vlieland is therefore also a very popular place for bird watchers. In October the songbird migration is at its peak and there are also many waders, ducks and other nice species to be found. We have a chance of seeing scarce migratory species such as Wryneck, Sparrowhawk Warbler and Leafwarbler.
