The book Stronger together from the crisis. How we can make Europe more resilient, more prosperous and more sustainable contains the full and annotated text of the twelfth HJ Schoo lecture that the president of De Nederlandsche Bank Klaas Knot gave on Tuesday evening, September 1, 2020, in the Rode Hoed debate center in Amsterdam.

Knot issues a clear warning in his lecture. He thinks it is 'wise to be cautious for the time being with new policy wishes that will structurally burden government finances'. At the same time, he sees no reason to make cuts or tax increases for the coming cabinet period due to the corona crisis. This despite the rapid increase in the national debt.

His concerns mainly concern cohesion in the European Union, where strong and weak economies are in danger of growing apart. The price for this, he believes, will be paid by ordinary people. That is why Knot proposes solutions in his HJ Schoo lecture to combat this growing inequality.

Prof. Dr. KHW Knot (53) has been president of De Nederlandsche Bank since July 1, 2011. Since 2005, he has also been honorary professor of Economics of Central Banking at the University of Groningen and since 2015 honorary professor of Monetary Stability at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Amsterdam.

EW 's HJ Schoo lecture is named after HJ Schoo, the former editor-in-chief of EW , deputy editor-in-chief of de Volkskrant and publisher of Vrij Nederland and Opzij , who died in 2007 at the age of 61.

This edition has 66 pages, including index.
