A zine is a do-it-yourself mini-magazine. Self-made, self-published and distributed in small editions (which can also be just one copy). A zine is often about a specific, self-chosen theme (from plants to your favorite movie, for example).

In this online workshop you will first learn something about the origins of zines. We give you ideas for the topic and how you could shape that idea. Next, we'll show you three easy ways to make a zine: at home, with one sheet of paper. And finally, you'll learn how to multiply and distribute your zine, should you wish.

You don't have to be good at drawing, you can also cut and paste. But above all it is about the pleasure of making. The following applies to zines: everything is possible and everything is allowed. With this workshop we help you to just get started.

What do you get?

  • Videos and photos with ideas on how to fill your zine.
  • Step-by-step plans for folding.
  • Explanation of how to distribute your zine.
  • Information about the origins of zines.
  • A digital workbook with zine templates, to print and complete yourself.

What do you need?

  • Paper, which can be in all colors and sizes (A4 is useful to start with).
  • Something to write or draw with.
  • (Masking) tape, needle and thread and/or a stapler.
  • And everything else is possible: magazines to cut out pictures or letters, stickers, photos, torn-out quotes, dried flowers, and so on.
