About 2 percent of Dutch people meet the criteria for a borderline personality disorder. What are the main characteristics of borderline? And how do you recognize borderline in yourself or someone around you?
One moment seemingly calm and happy, the next desperate, angry or upset. If there is one thing that characterizes borderline, it is the intense and rapidly changing emotions. In this session, borderline expert Erwin van Meekeren explains where this comes from.
In this session you will see an example situation in which emotions arise quickly and intensely.
What is the influence of a bad childhood on the development of borderline? Is it actually hereditary? And what does separation anxiety have to do with it? In this session you will consider the causes of borderline.
Many people with borderline fear that sooner or later they will be abandoned. You can better understand this 'fear of abandonment' using attachment theory. Erwin explains how this theory works.
Sufficient rest and regularity, postponing impulsive actions and doing something you enjoy more often: many 'little' things help to make life with borderline a little easier.
